Being on Warped Tour, traveling the country, seeing great bands, meeting new people every day… sounds great, right?
But if you’re not in a huge band, there’s a lot more behind the scenes stuff that you never see. Let’s take “traveling the country” as an example. Did you notice how the past couple weeks have involved driving from Washington DC to Chicago, then to New Jersey, then back to Ohio, then to New York, then back to Indiana, and finally to Boston today?
Look at those routes on a map and think how long it would take to do all that. Then think about the time it takes to tear down a tent at night and set it up again in the morning. Is it really possible to do all that between 9 PM and 11 AM when you have a 12 hour drive in there too?
I guess it is possible, but it’s certainly not easy. Especially if you throw in two flat tires on your touring van (in one day!)
That’s what happened to the Topshelf Records crew last night on their way to Boston for their big home-town stop. I managed to meet Seth at 1 AM to get him his car so he could get up to Boston, while the rest of the Topshelf gang tried to get a new tire. It was a mess, so if you see anyone from Topshelf today in Boston, be sure to wish them well! (and buy some CDs too
)
While I’m at it, I’d like to send a big shout out to the guys from Texas who gave Seth a lift across half of Pennsylvania! That’s what the Warped ‘family’ is all about!
