The Glamorous Life of Being on Warped Tour

Posted by Levi | 08.09.2007

Being on Warped Tour, traveling the country, seeing great bands, meeting new people every day… sounds great, right?

But if you’re not in a huge band, there’s a lot more behind the scenes stuff that you never see. Let’s take “traveling the country” as an example. Did you notice how the past couple weeks have involved driving from Washington DC to Chicago, then to New Jersey, then back to Ohio, then to New York, then back to Indiana, and finally to Boston today?

Look at those routes on a map and think how long it would take to do all that. Then think about the time it takes to tear down a tent at night and set it up again in the morning. Is it really possible to do all that between 9 PM and 11 AM when you have a 12 hour drive in there too?

I guess it is possible, but it’s certainly not easy. Especially if you throw in two flat tires on your touring van (in one day!)

That’s what happened to the Topshelf Records crew last night on their way to Boston for their big home-town stop. I managed to meet Seth at 1 AM to get him his car so he could get up to Boston, while the rest of the Topshelf gang tried to get a new tire. It was a mess, so if you see anyone from Topshelf today in Boston, be sure to wish them well! (and buy some CDs too ;) )

While I’m at it, I’d like to send a big shout out to the guys from Texas who gave Seth a lift across half of Pennsylvania! That’s what the Warped ‘family’ is all about!

Ahimsa Sunrise on Fuse TV This Month!

bodog battle of the bands on fuse tv

Today we have good news for any fellow central-Pennsylvanians. Dubois-based Ahimsa Sunrise is set to be featured on Fuse TV next week!

See a sneak peak on July 8th at 10 PM Eastern Time, and then see the real deal on July 11th at 10 PM. They made it onto Fuse thanks to their amazing performance in the Bodog Battle of the Bands.

Check them out if you’re into hardcore/experimental stuff. And if you like them, be sure to add them on Myspace, because their old account got screwed up and they need more friends!

The Blink 182 from Japan

Posted by Levi | 06.26.2007

I was browsing the PureVolume homepage today to see the newest batch of Pure Picks, and I was totally surprised by this one group from Japan called Ellegarden.

It wasn’t just because they were amazing, but because they sounded eerily similar to Blink 182. Really similar.

And I was pumped because I’m a Blink fan and with these guys around it’s like I can still buy Blink albums!

Right now they have three good songs on their PureVolume page and you can download each one, so check em out.

InsidePunk Season Begins!

Posted by Levi | 05.14.2007

After a long off-season, InsidePunk is back!

Last night’s kickoff event was a show at the Mercyhouse in Amherst, MA. The venue is really cool and so are the people in charge of the shows.

But the best part was meeting up with a band called Us Against The Archers, made up of former members of The Skeptics and Sixfinger. We’ll have an interview with them, plus some live footage, posted shortly.

On top of that, UATA’s bassist happens to run a record label called Topshelf Records. I also had a chance to interview him about starting and running a label and working in the music industry, so stay tuned for that as well.

Save Internet Radio!

pandora internet radio station

Have you ever enjoyed a free internet radio station, such as Pandora.com? That’s one of my favorite sites, and it should be one of yours - but it might not be around any longer!

That’s because the Copyright Royalty Board (CRB) approved a new fee structure that could raise rates between 300 percent and 1200 percent for internet radio stations. A jump like that will basically bankrupt any internet radio stations.

The worst part is, the only winners here are the big record labels. The bands would be lucky to see anything from this revenue jump. Or worse… they’ll lose a lot of potential fans who won’t have the opportunity to hear them online.

If you want to help save internet radio, you can easily help by signing a petition at savenetradio.org and forwarding this link to all your friends.
