Sing It Loud Recording a Full-Length Album

Posted by Levi | 01.10.2008

Great news for all Sing It Loud fans - they are in the studio right now and recording a full-length album! (With none other than Josh Cain of Motion City Soundtrack.)

Check out Sing It Loud’s latest video which takes you inside Flowers Studios in Minneapolis, Minnesota:

And be sure to subscribe to Sing It Loud on Youtube for more of their great videos.

guitar world tabs beta

Earlier today Guitar World launched a new section of their website filled with free (and legal) guitar tabs that you can view online and/or print out. Well, some are free. And some you can download. But some you can only view online in their special flash player, and downloads can cost 99 cents or more. (Think iTunes for guitar tabs.)

Whether you are looking for the premium tabs or guitar lessons that you have to pay for, or just some text-based tabs submitted by fellow members, this could be the place for you.

(Of course, Ultimate Guitar could also be the place for you, as they seem to have established a large guitar tab collection already.)

The latest word on the street is that Universal is banning full-length tracks from being used on Myspace. All Universal artists are now required to switch to 90 second song samples instead.

The news came from a message sent by Colbie Caillat to her fans:

Hey everyone…bad news. Due to circumstances beyond my control I have to swap the songs out on my page for 90 second versions instead of full length versions. In fact some of the songs have already been swapped as I write this.

Every artist signed to a Universal label has to comply immediately.

You can listen to full versions of some of my songs on my personal webpage www.colbiecaillatmusic.com. I will make sure that the songs that were available here are available there as soon as possible.

I apologize to everyone for the inconvenience especially those that use my songs for personal profiles. Hopefully the politics involved here gets worked out soon and we can return to full length songs as soon as possible. Thank you everyone for your continued support!!

Now I understand copyright policies and illegal downloads, but we’re talking a few songs in a streaming player on Myspace. Streaming full songs brings in more visitors, and the average Myspace user won’t be illegally downloading these songs off of Myspace’s servers. (Although it’s certainly possible.) So what’s the big deal?

I’m betting the “politics involved here” deal with some disagreement between Universal and News Corp over some corporate crap.

But if not, could this be the beginning of the end for Universal? Or worse, the end of free music on Myspace?

And if this journey was chronicled on film, would you want to see it?

electric apricot movie poster

You can bet I would, which is why I’m exited to check out National Lampoon presents Electric Apricot: Quest For Festeroo before it hits theaters on November 9th.

I wasn’t sure what to think when I heard about this, because the National Lampoon title (think Animal House, Van Wilder, etc.) doesn’t seem to fit with mockumentaries (and especially not documentaries.) Is it a documentary, or a big-budget film shot in the style of a documentary?

It turns out this is a real documentary from Les Claypool, and National Lampoon must have thought it was funny enough to acquire the rights and release it across the nation. Let’s hope they made the right choice!

If you want to see the trailer, you can see it at the official Electric Apricot website, or play it below:

Stay tuned for my review in a few days!
